Welcome

The Arts Society Dover, Deal & Sandwich was founded to provide local people with the opportunity to come together to enhance and expand their knowledge and enjoyment of the arts. Upon joining our Society, members automatically become members of the national organisation The Arts Society and receive a magazine on the arts three times a year.

We offer a programme of illustrated lectures on a wide range of subjects given by professionals who are experts in their chosen fields and are accredited by The Arts Society.  We meet in the historic Guildhall, Cattle Market, Sandwich CT13 9AH on the first Tuesday morning of the month, with a summer break in July and August. Coffee is available from 10.15am and the lecture runs from 11.00am to 12.00, followed by a brief question and answer session. Please be seated by 10.50am.

We generally hold Study Days during the year which deal with a specific subject in greater depth. We also offer Visits to exhibitions or places of interest and organise Tours further afield both in the UK and abroad. Members have the opportunity to become involved in conservation projects such as Heritage Volunteers or become a part of our team of Church Recorders.

Becoming a Member

We welcome new members. Our membership year runs from 1 November to 31 October and the current fee for 2025/26 is £50 per person, payable in cash, by cheque or by bank transfer. For further details click here.

Attending as a Guest

Guests are very welcome to our lectures and you will have the opportunity to learn more about the society and its activities. The cost is £7 per lecture and for details please contact our Membership Secretary on 01227 728518, or via email at theartssocietydds@gmail.com.

Joining the Committee

As with many similar organisations we rely on a small group of members to make sure it all runs smoothly, otherwise known as the committee. We are a cohesive group and enjoy our responsibilities.  If you would be interested in joining the committee please click here.

Parking

If you are travelling by car there are a number of car parks available in Sandwich, for details click here. The nearest car park is the Guildhall car park (where parking is now limited to 3 hours) but if this is full you could try the Gazen Salts or Quay car parks and walk to the Guildhall which takes about 10 minutes.
